Educating the Next Generation
Educating the Next Generation is one of the three areas of focus for our philanthropic arm, the Citigroup Foundation, alongside Financial Education and Building Communities and Entrepreneurs.
Since 2002, over 1,000 Singaporean students were given a great learning opportunity to express their creative and entrepreneurial talents through the Citigroup Ideas in Action programme.
Launched in collaboration with the Learning Society and the Ministry of Education, this innovative challenge has sparked a noteworthy response. The over 100 project ideas funded to-date include some outstanding examples, such as:
  • A pandan leaf-based cockroach repellent
  • A folding tray table for hawker centres
  • A 2-in-1 cake cutter and server
  • A foldable badminton racket
  • A Chinese language board game
For more information on previous projects by participating teams, visit the Citigroup Ideas in Action website at www.learningsociety.org
What is Citigroup Ideas In Action about?
Citigroup Ideas In Action is a programme that enables students and teachers to develop their creative and entrepreneurial ideas through seed funding.
How do I get a Citigroup Ideas In Action grant?
Grants are awarded based on the quality of the creative process and the innovative and entrepreneurial thinking displayed in the submitted project plans. The plans must be submitted via the online entry form found at www.learningsociety.org
If your idea is short-listed, you and your team will be invited to present your proposal to a panel of judges comprising professionals from the education, business, media and public sectors.
Approved Citigroup Ideas In Action projects will receive grants of up to S$2,500 or more, depending on the degree of uniqueness and innovativeness.
Winning projects will be considered for venture capital funding, for continued sustainability. These teams will go through a second round of proposal submission and judging after the progress visit. The successful teams will receive the second round of funding of S$10,000 or S$5,000 for future development and implementation of their innovative ideas. This team will have the next school academic year to work on their project.
